Before I tell you guys what is going on, I thought I'd give you a little background on my husband and my mom. In 2005 my DSCN0059husband was rushed to the emergency room on Easter morning and was later diagnosed with a degenerative disease called “ankylosing spondylitis”. Our life was totally about to change. Since there is no cure for this disease we have spent lots of hours in and out of the hospital, several surgeries and more meds than I can count on my fingers. The Remicade infusions that he takes are $8,000 every 6 weeks. This is just one of his many meds .Without insurance it would be a scary situation.

My mom has has Klippel-Feil Syndrome which she has had from birth.  Basically she has fusion of the last 2 cervical and all of the thoracic vertebrae which causes Scoliosis. The last 3 ribs in front are also fused. She also has a splitting of the Spinal Cord in the cervical area about 1 to 2 cm.They told my mom she would never walk, but grandmother put my mom in a snow suit and stuffed towels down the back and taught her how to walk. My mom could have been on disability since birth , but my mom is a strong woman and would not let this disease get the best of her. She went to college and became a Labor & Delivery Nurse. In 2009 my mom got very sick because a patient who was selfish and checked herself into Labor & Delivery because she had Pneumonia and didn't want to wait in the ER. (The Hospital is not supposed to take those kinds of patients on that floor due to the babies) and mom had to go on disability due to her lungs.

IMG_0311In Jan. of 2010 we made the decision to have my mom move in with us. Because of the situation of being on disability with no insurance because it is the law that you must be on disability for 2 years to get insurance it was hard for my mom to financially stay in her house. Not only that someone tried to break into her house twice while she was at home! Many of you have wondered why I haven't been as active lately so I just wanted to give you some answers to what was going on!

We got good news today! We found a house, they accepted our offer and we got the loan! So now all we have to do is get our house ready to put on the market! I am so excited! My mom is going to be such a big help! I will no longer have to worry about Daniel being at home now that I have a registered Nurse living with us. She is a great couponer and does a ton of behind the scenes work here on CQ so I hope to be saving even more money! She will be able to also take the kids to school until Taylor starts driving. Did I mention she is also a good cook?

Here is a Pic of the house we are getting! If you are in the Oklahoma area and are looking for a house here are the details of ours!

Hi Melissa,
I am so sorry to hear about your difficult times. I am surprised you have had this site up and running at all.
The house look beautiful, and it sounds like with your mother being there its a blessing in disguise, but she has been through alot of medical problems, she is a very strong woman. I guess that is where you get your strength. Stay postive,
my prayers are with you all. God Bless.

Forgot I have a packing tip! There is a plastic wrap you can use to close smaller boxes, wrap kitchen utensils in a bundle (keeps them from getting jumbled), etc. I can’t remember what it’s called…but it’s like Saran Wrap on a big roll with a handle. You can buy it at Lowes and Home Depot (Lowes has it with packing supplies near the home storage section). If you have several small things that you can stack, like photo boxes, you can put several together and wrap them all together so they can be carried as one. We used it when we came here a year ago and it was awesome! Also, look for sticky bubble wrap that comes in a roll and tears off in sheets! Awesome for dishes! I’ll be getting these things myself soon. Hubby’s work in OKC is done and we are leaving Yukon to go home to Montana at the end of February.

Congrats on getting your new home! And so glad your mom will be coming to stay with you. I’m thinking of all the bonding that will be happening.

So sorry about her having to go on disability because of someone’s selfishness and also about your husband’s pain.

Oh the strength you are having as a woman, daughter and wife.
