Russian Tea Cakes (Thumbprint cookies)
1 lb butter 1 C sugar 1/2 tsp salt 4 C flour 1 tsp vanilla red jam ( I prefer raspberry because strawberry tends to run)
In a mixer, cream butter, sugar and salt together. Mix in vanilla. Slowly stir in flour. Roll into 1 inch balls or use a 1 inch scoop. Make an indentation and drop some red jam onto the cookie. Bake at 325 for about 10-12 minutes depending on the oven.
