Well..the surgeones told us yesterday that they though they could get half of the tumor out..after the surgery today the doctor comes out, sits down and says...i think i accidentally took it all out..
She said she was working on removing it and it just came out piece after piece, wasn't intertwined with brain tissue or anything so she kept going and his optical nerve was under the tumor, just getting pressure but the tumor came right off of it. Guys, this is better news than the best news we were hoping for, everyone just sat there stunned trying to comprehend what she was saying.
We do have some cons...she thinks he most likely will have problems with his hormone levels..that should be able to be regulated by medicine.
It does look like the tumor was cancerous, not what we were hoping for but since we already knew they were most likely gonna do chemo, it's ok. We can deal with that now.
They are gonna do another MRI tomorrow to check if anything was left of the tumor but she was pretty positive about the results.
I can not thank everyone enough for all the prayers, he will still need prayers for a good recovery but this was the big thing we needed to fix first and this doctor fixed that way beyond our wildest imaginations.
I said before i think we are giving him the best doctors we can offer him, this doctor just proved that to me 100 times over.
So please thank god for giving Dr. Gross the knowledge and talent to pull something like that off, to me and everyone in the room she saved my grandsons life.

I prayed so hard for a great surgery and specifically that God would work through the surgeons, this brings happy tears to my eyes.. GOD is good. Like Beth said, if you need anything call either of us and we will be there is a second! In the mean time, thanks for the update, and I will keep praying!

The optic nerve is very far down in the brain. I thank God for peeling this tumor out of his brain and handing it to Dr Gross. His body is already fighting the cancer cells. He is so young maybe he still has some stems cells left. Our Childrens Hospital is one of the best in the country for difficult, weird and one of a kind conditions. Congratulations everybody, you have just witnessed a miracle!! Leslie
