I think this is a great tool for newbies. It is quite funny...I had no one to teach me this information. I just started clippin coupons one day about 2+ years ago and learned on the fly. It didn't take me long to find out the best way to maxmize my savings, but I wish I had been able to read this article first. It would have saved me so much time and effort. Nevertheless....Great information.

Hi,

I'm knew here but have been an avid grocery coupon fanatic for 15 years. It started with my first child. I would like to share my "shopping list" spread sheet but wasn't sure which thread to put it under. Hopefully this is the right one.

I've put together an excel spread sheet (Okay I'm a bit of a computer geek). It is online so I can get at it from work or home, http://www.talbotservices.com/groceries.xls.

It has a column to say whether or not a coupon doubles, figures out the final price and savings, for Walgreens counts the number of coupons and items so I know that coupons do not go over items (Walgreens won't allow more coupons than items at checkout).

I know that Homeland won't double more than one coupon so before checkout I sort everything into multiple purchase by coupon and in the basket so that they can ring me out in several purchase.

Please let me know if you have any questions about how to use this. As I never expected to share it, it is a bit arcane and maybe mostly for use by those comfortable with excel.

Thanks for the great info,
Daphne, Edmond, OK

For organization get a three ring binder and fill it with some baseball card holder sheets and dividers you can flip through your coupons fast.

I love this site. I've used coupons before but haven't had the success of the posters here. I'm ready, willing and able to learn more. Thanks for the How to Coupon article. Anyone else shop at Giant in Pennsylvnia here?

awesome article.

One more way that I find savings, is when I have some extra time on my hands, I will sit at the computer with my shopping receipt; go through it, oh I bought 2 bottles of garnier shampoo conditioner, pull up their website, and check for rebate on those purchases that I made from that receipt, when I find one, I scan the receipt, (keeping it for my records) and then fill out the rebate and mail it in. If I dont have a rebate for anything on that receipt, put it in my box, and pull it back out a month from now, check again. At the end of the year, you can figure your rebate savings by taking your scanned receipts and writing the rebate amount you will get back on the scanned portion and add them at the end of the year.

I am right there with you Irish granny. I know how others do it. But I just have not got the groove yet. ConsumerQueen likes the binder method and using baseball card sleeves.
