To make homemade fabric softener sheets, I take a spray bottle and put 2 oz. of fabric softener in it then fill to top with water. Shake it up and spritz an old wash cloth or any similar type cloth or rag and toss in with your clothes. It works great. Sometimes I just spritz my clothes as I put them in the dryer and have never had it stain as it is so diluted.

I hope this helps someone.
