Tired of spending money on store-bought deodorants/antiperspirants, only to find that they let you down and stain your clothes? Then, try this simple – and unbelievably cheap – alternative:

What You Need:

Wash cloth
Baking soda

What to Do:

Sprinkle baking soda – a little will do – onto a damp wash cloth, and apply it to your underarms. It'll keep you fresh throughout the day!

Why This Works:

Baking soda absorbs perspiration and neutralizes odors.

Benefits of Using Baking Soda Deodorant:

inexpensive
no harsh chemicals (like the aluminum found in most commerical antiperspirants)
fragrance-free
alcohol-free
neutralizes odors, rather than covering them up

Tips:

1. If a dry application is preferable, use a duster or brush to apply.

2. For a scented deodorant, mix together equal parts baking soda and corn starch (for shelf stability); and add a few drops of essential oil or a handful of dried flowers (lavender is nice). Then, store in an airtight container.

I know. When I was looking at some home remedies and frugal things to do it seems like we can cure/do everything if we just buy a box of baking soda and a bottle of vinegar. Now there may be some truth to it, but darn it what to do with all the FREE deoderant and shampoo I got from the coupons????

LMBO! I was thinking the same thing! Why spend the 50 cents on a box of baking soda when I'm getting deodorant FREE?

I would never pay $0.50 for baking soda. That IS too much in my book.

being frugal isn't bad lol :) I actually have been trying a homemade deodorant, and its great for those of us with sensitive skin :)

here is the recipe: from http://tammysrecipes.com/homemade_deodorant_recipe

Ingredients for homemade deodorant:

1/4 cup baking soda (you may need to use much less, this can be irritating to the skin, I used 2 tbsps)
1/4 cup corn starch (may have to add more)
5 tablespoons coconut oil
essential oils for scent (optional)

Mix together and store in a small covered container. I had to add more cornstarch (I actually used cornstarch baby powder) to get it to be thicker. Coconut oil is funny though, because it turn to liquid in temperatures greater than 80 degrees and hardens when its cooler.

I sometimes add just a little cornstarch baby powder after I apply this deodorant, it depends on whether it feels a little wet or not.
