I got this in my e-mail but I doubt they will mind me posting it here! I do not have an American Express card so I cannot try to vote since it is for cardmembers only. The link to vote is at the bottem. This is from another Karen not me:

Helping The Hugs Project help the troops just became easier. We're now entered in another contest. Ray and I have been American Express card holders since 1999. Because I'm a member, I can submit a project I would for an online voting. It was really strange how I could enter - their rules didn't allow me to make any mention of the project by name. I had to talk about me and what I want to do and those of you who know me, know that's a hard thing for me to do. I don't think it's all about ME, I think it's all about YOU....Patriotic Americans who love and respect our troops. We've been able to do so much because of each and everyone of YOU. But, I submitted the entry about 10 separate times and every time, it was rejected because I didn't make it personal enough. I was SO frustrated but didn't give up because this could be such a blessing.

They had a lot of odd qualifiers and the last time I tried to submit, I even had to change the words, "A Navy Seal team commander said," to "A Soldier said," and then it finally was accepted. Don't ask me why, I can't explain it, I just know it's strange but if that's what it takes in order to compete...I can play their games.

Between now and Aug. 31, 2008, I need you to do two things:

Nominate this project so that we can reach the Top 25. Here's what they say on their website about how the 25 are chosen: Selection of 25 Semi-Finalist Projects: American Express will select 25 Projects as semi-finalists based on the following factors: (1) various measures of popularity and interest generated among the Registered Users throughout the Nomination Period, including the number of nominations received and the level of activity on the Discussion Boards; (2) the quality of the Project Submission based on the Project Criteria as determined by American Express and an independent advisory panel selected by American Express (the "Advisory Panel"); and (3) the confirmation of an appropriate Fulfilling Organization to be matched with the Project.
Campaign for this project by promoting it on the Members Project Discussion Boards and telling all of your friends and family members about it using the helpful tools on http://membersproject.com
Here's more info on the voting process...
Voting Rounds: The semi-finalist Projects will be posted, together with the name and information of the Fulfilling Organization associated with each Project, at the Project Site during the "Voting Period", which commences September 9, 2008 and continues through September 29, 2008. There will be two rounds of Cardmember voting. Each Cardmember gets one vote per voting round, but the vote may be changed at any time and multiple times until the close of the voting round. American Express reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to void any votes generated by a script, macro, or other automated means and to prevent further participation from any Cardmember using such means.

First Voting Round (September 9, 2008 through September 29, 2008): Cardmembers can votefor one Project among all semi-finalist Projects that they think best meets the Project Criteria. At the completion of the first voting round, five (5) Projects with the highest Cardmember vote totals will advance to the second voting round as finalist Projects. In the event of a tie, American Express will make the final determination based on the scores provided by the Advisory Panel as part of the selection of the semi-finalist Projects.
Second Voting Round (September 30, 2008 through October 13, 2008): Cardmembers can vote for one Project among the five (5) finalist Projects that they think best meets the Project Criteria. At the completion of the second voting round, the Project with the highest Cardmember vote total will be declared the "Winning Project", the Project with the second highest vote total will be declared the "Second Place Project", and the Project with the third highest vote total will be declared the "Third Place Project". In the event of a tie, American Express will make the final determination based on the number of votes received in the first voting round.
Prize Awards: American Express will award $1,500,000 to the Fulfilling Organization associated with the Winning Project, $500,000 to the Fulfilling Organization associated with the Second Place Project, and $300,000 to the Fulfilling Organization associated with the Third Place Project. In addition, American Express will award $100,000 to each of the Fulfilling Organizations associated with the remaining two finalist Projects. The Winning Project, the Second Place Project, and the Third Place Project, together with their respective Fulfilling Organizations and the Cardmembers who submitted such Projects, will be announced on or about October 14, 2008 and posted on the Project Site.

Last year, Members Project participants helped provide clean drinking water to children all across Africa. This year, maybe our project will receive some funding.

Please visit: http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/NUNHPU and encourage all your troop's loving friends to do the same.

We can win this thing if every member does just a little bit to help us promote it. Just think of the good we could do with that money.

Thanks,

Karen
