Went to Homeland to do my monthly BIG shopping :) bought about 195.00 worth of stuff and only paid about 90.00, anyway the sacker and the cashier from the lane beside me were in awe, and raving about how much I saved. The cashier fellow (both were teens) was like " I wish you were in my line, so I can say that you saved $100 in my line!" and on and on, and then both the sacker and the other cashier helped me out with my groceries, so they could find out more, He was shocked at my divided notebook, and both wished their parents would shop like that! lol and of course I told them about consumerqueen.com :)

I just got a good laugh, I was a little shocked at their reaction, but it was cool, I never have been so popular!

I have a question about stocking up at Homeland. From what I understand, you can only double the first coupon if your are buying multiple of a certain item. So, the question is how are you doing this? Are you just taking the double Q on one and not the others? I had five coupons for several different items recently and the cashier said that I could just stay there and make several purchases. I felt really bad when people started lining up behind me, so I'm not sure I want to do that again.
Thanks.

I have just discovered we still have a Homeland in Tulsa. I visit once a week and have actually made a friend in an employee who stocks and another who is a cashier. They are wonderfully nice and always make a point to come talk to me when they see me in there. This week I used the $1.00 Q on the Energizer AAA batteries on sale for $3.27 and only paid $1.27, also the Dannon all Natural yogurt was free with Q!!!
I have been told that once a year they do a special with triple coupons. Anyone know if this is true?????
Thanks to everyone on this board I have learned a lot about saving at this store. :D

I have been shopping for some time at the Homeland in Yukon, and worked at one in Norman about 10 yrs ago. Lets say you have 2 coupons for like items, they will double the first one, and the next one will be at face value.

I tend to just use coupons on things that are on sale there, and I also like to use the 1.00 off ones on other items, like toiletries, because it makes it cheaper than Walmart (I am talking 0.20 deoderant, or free on certain items) Others plan out by store, and hit sales at other stores (Williams is another option since they double up to 0.50, but it really depends on the sales)
I personally try to get all my shopping done (well most of it) once month. I don't have the time right now or the energy to spend the time getting super organized :) One thing I recommend is at least keep a general idea of what you pay at your usual store with out coupons, that way you will know whether you are getting a good deal, because I think we all can agree most regular supermarkets are expensive! (Crest and Buyforless, are 2 of the most reasonable ones I know of)

I read The Complete Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn, she recommends a notebook where you right down the things you buy frequently, sizes and such, and the prices at your usual store, and go around experimenting with different stores, writing down their prices too (and you could also figure the price per ounce in case you need to compare a different size), that way you can determine whether the sale price or price minus coupons is really saving money on things you typically buy (I have yet to try this, since doing this while dragging my kids along, would take too long) There are many times, I will pass up using a coupon if the generic is cheaper than the name brand with coupons.

I shop Crest for most of my items and only shop Homeland for their sales that I have coupons on. Most times I get most of the items I buy for free or next to nothing. I also look at their meat because they often have reduced items at very good prices that I can bring home and freeze. Sometimes I do two transactions at the same store or I'll go to two different stores on different days depending on the side of town I'm on and where I'm running my errands.

Yes they only will double the first coupon but sometimes, if the sale is good enough, even when you double the first and take another at face value, you are still getting items MUCH cheaper than at Walmart or Crest. Again, it just depends on the sale and you have to do the math and know your prices at other stores.

Homeland also has many sales that they do not advertise and often there are coupons out for those items.

This post made me laugh, because the other day I was at the Neighborhood Market and when I pulled out my coupons the cashier smiled and said "I thought that was you! You're the girl who saves all the money with her coupons! I tell everyone about you!!" She asks me to remember my total before the coupons so that when the final total comes up, she knows how much I saved. When I walk away, I always hear her telling the next people, "That girl just save XX dollars with her coupons!"

It is sooo nice when the cashier enjoys seeing the amount you save as well. There is a man at Homeland in Tulsa that always comes over to whichever register I am checking out at and says hi. He is always friendly and likes to see how much $$$ I save. When I go to a store that treats me as if I am stealing (don't want to mention names like W8888888's), I just don't ever want to go back.
I have actually made a few new friends at stores due to the advice from this forum. :D

GREAT IDEA! They do spend extra time when we have a pile, and a little thanks from time to time is always nice.
