When i find roast on sale i grab 3 or 4 and have them ground up into hamburger meat and have it wrapped into 2lbs bundles.Not only is it cheaper that way, but it has less fat in the meat.
I do the same. Not only is it cheaper, but I just have to know what I'm getting. I don't like "mystery meat"!
But I wanted to mention that not only do I get it ground, I also get it cut into thin cut steaks for Phillies, and also get stew meat, stir fry, etc. This makes it come to a literal fraction of the regular costs for these cuts.
The bottom rounds are on sale at Publix this week for $1.99lb. I plan on getting about 15-16 lbs. I call ahead and it's waiting for me when I get there. You just gotta love Publix.
They're still a store that gives great customer service. Rare and few between these days!
