How to keep the old farmhouse warm? Here is a tip/suggestion of sorts. I have noticed even around the new doors we have put in, that cold drafts come through. I have taken to putting a bathtowel on the floor in front of the doorway. Ugly, yes. Need to move to go out the door? yes. need to be washed with the other towels? yes, but makes the room, esp at the floor noticibly warmer.

They sell a thing you can slide under the door and it covers both sides. Not sure if that is an option for you but they are supposed to slide with the door so it would ensure that guest and children keep the draft blocked.
