At what age will you allow your child to wear makeup?

tough call, I have a step-daughter that lives with me who is almost 9 and currently we allow her to wear light lip gloss and eye shadows around the house, but not when we go out. I think 12 or 13 is a fair age to begin letting her experiment more and wearing it out.

My oldest was allowed at 14. I wore makeup around that age as well. I wish that the girls these days would realize they are pretty without it though, you know what I mean?

I do not have girls but I think it is a floating number. It depends on what she considers make-up. Light lipgloss I see no problem with at a young age (9/10). Bright red lipstick and black eye shadow = the day she moves out of my house. If my child were able to put on make up properly without looking like a clown then I would allow it when she could buy her own (either with allowance or income from a job).

I agree Rachel, but at the same time I know how attached I am to mine so I get it to some degree. I think teaching that it's to enhance beauty not create it is the key.

I have a 12 year old and according to her, EVERYONE is wearing makeup...lol. I allow her to wear lipgloss and that's it. She has recently began getting acne, so right now, I'm just trying to teach her how to keep her face clean as best as you can at that age. Once she reaches high school, I will probably allow her to wear a bit more makeup, but I'll probably splurge for a facial and a demonstration from their make up artist on how to apply makeup properly.

Thats what I need. To have someone teach her to wear makeup properly. I dont wear it. I rub my eyes to much to wear makeup!

Rachel I am with you on that. I have gone many places and they will put it on you, but no one ever takes the time to tell you how to do it right. They want you in and out.
