Thanks for posting Shannon....Melissa and our family have really appreciated the emails, calls and words of encouragement from everyone. It was a mad house with all of us running around the house throwing everything up on the furniture and Taylor's bunk bed. We still had stuff like pictures, scrapbooks and personal stuff on the floor that we hadn't gotten around to putting up yet after the move and when the water started coming in we were running between putting towels and blankets in front of the doors and gathering up what we thought was important.
As the water rose, it started rushing in through the doggy door....that was a sight to see....it was like someone had opened up a fire hydrant! Daniel finally stuffed enough towels in the hole to get it to slow way down. When the water got high enough to reach the electrical system on the fridge it started throwing out ice cubes all over the kitchen (it's funny now, but pretty scary then). I was worried about walking around in all the water with the electricity still on but the garage was so flooded that Daniel couldn't get to it. The garage was FULL of rubbermaid containers & boxes that we hadn't unpacked yet and they were floating everywhere. We settled for just unplugging everything. Daniel flagged down the rescue squad and we all climbed out Taylor's bedroom window and they helped us to high ground where Melissa was waiting. Daniel made several trips back getting the cats and the guinea pigs.
Tomorrow we go back to the house to see what can be salvaged.....we're pretty sure all the mattresses are ruined as well as the furniture. My grandmother's grandfather clock felt pretty dry this evening so I'm hopeful it will be ok....I didn't open it up so I don't know if it's still wet inside. The water receded pretty fast so maybe if we can get things dried out we can save some stuff. The carpet & sheet rock has to be replaced for sure and maybe some of the wood flooring. We just moved in, now we'll be moving out until all the repairs are done.
