So my husband and I want to go on a carribean cruise leaving from Galviston TX sometime next summer. I have no clue where to start in planning. Where have you guys gone? What sites have the best deals? We really don't want to spend a whole lot so I'm not sure where to go for the best deal for the buck. Also, do you need to get a passport for these cruises? Any help/tips/suggestions please. TIA!

You will need a passport to get off the boat in another country. I would work on geting them now since it takes time. I have never been on a cruise but my bosses have. I will ask who they go through. I know that one boss takes CHEAP cruises in November His total bill for 7 day trips are around $900. This includes the extra fee for unlimited soda. He does drive to texas to get the boat and drive back and gets a motel room near the boat the night before.

Thanks! That's probably not a bad idea to go in November. And sure, any info you can get from him on what cruise line he uses will be helpful. Thanks so much :-)

He uses vacations to go. Their telephone number is 1-800-338-4962. He said he goes on the carnival cruises out of galveston since they drive down and get a room and leave the next day.

His cruise last year for a 7 day cruise to mexico was $650 for an ocean view (not balcony). He has found some for july and august that are less than $800 also.

I have been on numerous cruises and all out of Galveston. You do no need a passport if you depart and arrived from the same port (ie: Leaving and returning to Galveston, TX). They aren't required on the port either but it's best to have one just in case you get stuck on the island. The forum I get my information from is cruisecritics.com. They are very helpful and have many, many tips and savings for you. We always book our shore excursion from a company from the port we go to. We bring our own soda on board to save costs. We book a hotel for the night before and get free parking for our vehicle and shuttle to the terminal. I have been to Cozumel, Progreso, Belize, Calica, Playa Del Carmen, Nassua Bahamas, Freeport Bahamas, Key West, Montego Bay Jamaica and Grand Cayman Islands. Feel free to ask any questions and I will be happy to help you.
