My dh has a history of kidney stones and about 3-4 hrs ago said it felt like he had one. well about an hr ago he threw up and his color is way off. He refuses to go to the hospital. He got laid off a month ago and doesnt have ins, but I dont care-he needs to get into the er.
I applied for both of us for medicaid because our income is low enuf and we both take meds to survive. I just checked the status of our app online and it says "Routed for Medical Assistance - In Process"
So im hoping that means we are getting it.
We can use all the prayers we can get,
Thanx,
Kathie

Kathie I would just take him...normally they will back date it to where he will be covered. Man it really helps when you take meds that cost so much...Good luck...

Oh, I'm praying. I was with my brother when he passed a stone. I have never seen anyone in that much pain, and I worked in a hospital! It's awful! I hope he goes to the hospital. Praying for both of you!

We are finally home. After a ct scan he has a 3mm stone and its on its way to the bladder, so they sent him home with some lortab and plastic urnial and screener to screen for the stone. The bad thing is there is many more in his kidney. As for the cost it didnt bother me at all, but we have an application for help since he's off and I only get ssd. hopefully we can get medicaid.
This is only his 3 or 4th time with these and he was told 10 yrs ago with first 1 what not to eat to avoid them and he has a fit. Tonite was the first time I have driven after dark in over 7 yrs and was in alot of pain when I got home. I can sleep better now.

Im so sorry to hear about your situtation! My husband passes about 1-3 kidney stones every year to two years, I feel your pain. It is sad to watch them go through this because im sure it is VERY painful. My husband is a big "manly man" so to speak, nothing ever hurts him. Yet these kidney stones passing puts him in the fetal possition on the floor in tears. Im glad you were able to take him to the hospital! My husband had to do the straining of his urine as well. This is nice because if he can catch the stone, you can take it to a urine doctor and he can annylise the stone to see what it is made up of. Stones can be made up of different things. And the one's that your husband is passing is made up of whatever his body is getting to much of. This is nice because they can narrow it down to the exact thing instead of just cutting all the possiblities out of your diet.

Things your husband can do to help the pain until he does go to the hospital is take a very hot bath. When my husbad was in alot of pain before he finally gave in and went to the hospital was to take a very hot bath. It doesnt take the pain away but it kindof helps to relax your muscles so that the stone will hopefully pass more quickly. Also, tell him to drink lots of water and to just keep downing it. It will hopefully help him to pee faster aswell. The key is to the stone out as quickly as possible as this is what's causing all the pain.

And I know you stated that the CT scan said that there were more in his kidneys. The thing that sucks about this is you never know when they are going to decide to pass as well. When my husbad was at the hospital last they said there was a handful left to pass. This was over a year and a half ago and we have yet to see another stone. But, he could aslo be passing them so fast that he never feels it. Hang in there, I know its rough. Im praying for you and your family and I hope that your medical information clears so that you are both taken care of. It's a shame at what we have to do in this country just to be provided simple health care. I really hope your husband feels better and that he doesnt have to go through this again. Take care and god bless!

we got the bill yesterday and its $2440. My status for our med assistance is still the same. I think I'm gonna send my caseworker a copy of it with my application # on it. jeff was out yesterday and drove by work and theres very little people left. He heard that 1 of the office workers got hrs cut down to 20 from 40.

I would send in the bill. Many times assistance is retroactive.

I am not as lucky. I have not gotten a bill yet. They made me pay $200 OOP to get the ultrasound and they estimated it almost $600.00. They called to see if I qualified to medical (only if for a family of 5 I made under $600). They said they will call me back for payment arrangements and I said $5 per month. They noted that on my account. Thank goodness my insurance started May 1.
