My favorite holiday tradition is baking. From about now until after Christmas I turn into a baking queen! On Christmas morning though, we go to my moms house and have a huge breakfast, then open presents and watch the parades. By lunch time we all head over to my grandmother’s house where we have a big lunch and just enjoy spending time with the whole family and catching up on what has been going on.

During Christmas vacation, our family of five sets aside an evening to go to a really nice restaurant and afterwards we drive around looking at the beautiful Christmas lights and decorations of peoples homes. We plan and budget this evening because of the expense of eating out and driving.

As a child, I didn’t really have a set tradition. As a adult, the previous couple of years we have been spending the night at my dad’s house, along with my sister and her family. As soon as the kids wake up (toddlers), of course we head to the Christmas tree and the fun begins. My dad does mine and my husband, sister and her husband stockings, which are 2 huge black trash bags filled with all kids of goodies. Our very first Christmas to do this, I guess the reason why we began it was because my dad had my sister and I a grandfather clock waiting for us in the living room by the Christmas tree. He really couldn’t get it to us without running the surprise, so he asked if us he wanted to spend the night Christmas eve and the tradition began!

One of my favorite family holiday traditions is waking up on Christmas morning and before we can open anything we have a family brunch. We have lots to eat. From eggs, pancakes, fresh fruits, juices, bagels, danishes, oatmeal, coffee, and tea’s. It is so nice to have everyone over for brunch and then we take turns opening our presents. That way we get to enjoy eachothers company while seeing what Santa left us under the tree too.

Hi again. I have a few holiday traditions. My first is that every year we celebrate christmas with my mothers side on christmas eve and exchange gifts. I love it because all the kids are super excited and it’s like having 2 christmases. We have a nice lasagna dinner and munchies. My other tradition is to decorate the christmas tree as a family. We play Holiday music while doing it, and let the children hang their special ornaments. We usually do this the 1st or 2nd saturday of December depending on what the date is because my husbands bday is the 9th and we don’t want to take away from that. I have previously commented on your youtube videos, I love them! Anyhow I commented today on the swiffer one as well my id is avanloon69. I am a blog subscriber and I posted about this contest to 3 groups. So please enter me in the contest too. Thank you.

Our Christmas tradition growing up was to read The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve, then leave cookies for Santa. Christmas morning we read the Christmas Story from the Bible (we always read the King James Version, I know this because we all have NIV Bibles and we had to look for a KJ Version one year) while we eat blueberry coffeecake before opening our presents.

  28. Alaina on November 13, 2008 8:20 pm

Well, I adore the holidays and we have many family traditions. We love to include the old movies in our Christmas. For many years, we had gone to the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham. For a week, they played the oldies and the families would come and eat popcorn, sing carols, and recite the lines to the old movies. It was a blast! The organ player would arise from out of the floor pre-show and lead the attenders in cute carols! The kids belted out the tunes! Now, we have moved. But, each year my sons still love to watch “The Christmas Story” and recite the lines and bend over laughing!
