My fave ice cream moment will always be the first time I visited my sister in Texas shortly after she moved away from Ohio and she felt so far from home and homesick that I made us both big banana splits (w/our extra ingredient peanut butter) like we used to make at home. It helped her feel a little less lost found in the big new city having me and the banana split around.

My father, even at 80, always has his nightly dish of ice cream. Every time I eat it, I think of him.

When I was in my later teens, after a date,Teens always go on dates in large groups,)we’d head on over to an ice cream parlor (I’m dating myself) named Jahns. We’d order something called the Kitchen Sink. Twelve of us could not finish this enormous ice cream confection that was brought to the table.

When my Dad would take me to get an ice cream cone after a long hot day of fishing….those were the best tasting ice cream cones ever!

A favorite memory of mine is when my sister and I were little kids, my Mom would occasionally make us root beer floats…that was a real treat for us since we did not usually keep soda and ice cream in the house.

i think my favorite ice cream memory is when my son had his first icecream cone and more was on his face and clothes but he learned to lick and he loved the flavor, then he stuck it off the chair a bit waving the cone and the dog grabbed the cone which was a chewy mess. He did not cry but laughed and clapped his hands which splat chocolate ice cream all over and then he fingerpainted a bit on the tray. Then the dog licked him clean and son was still laughing. For some reason I saw the first of real sharing.

We used to go to an ice cream shop called Rainbow Cone (where they would make giant cones with 5 different ice cream flavors). Once, we went and I got 2 scoops of chocolate, instead of a Rainbow cone. I took one lick, and both scoops of ice cream fell off. I was so sad, but mom shared her cone with me.

But the best ice cream I’ve ever had was gelato in Italy…

Now I try to make sure I do special things with each of my children to give them some one-on-one time and create similar special memories.

My favorite ice cream moment is about my husband, and our daughter(about 3 months old). This is the funniest story!

My husband and I took a walk (daughter in stroller), we stopped to get ice cream. My hubby decided to get a milk shake.

He had the stroller with 1 hand and the shake in the other. He was going to take a sip of the shake when it slipped out of his hands and on to our daughter’s face!

He was so embarrased and walked into a bar and asked the bartendar for napkins. lol Then he had to explain why he needed more than 1 napkin.

We laugh about it now, but we were upset when it happened.

Anyway, that’s the one moment that always stands out in my memory when we go get ice cream I tell him “NO SHAKES”. lol

I remember many summer (and some winter) evenings when my sister and I would try to convince my parents (mostly Dad) that we needed to go get ice cream for dessert. It usually wasn’t very hard to get him to agree. Dad’s always loved ice cream. We’d pile into the car and drive up to the local Baskin’ Robbins, get our ice cream and, if the weather was comfortable, wander along the strip mall where the ice cream shop was looking in the windows. Great memory from childhood.

One of my FAVORITE ice cream memories is when I got on the honor roll every semester one year in junior high, my dad brought home a Dairy Queen Treatsa Pizza! This was SUCH a treat and an unexpected one because my dad is a very gruff farmer type who doesn’t gush or give out praise easily. So this was his way of saying “Way to go! I’m so proud of you!”

My favorite Ice cream moment was getting to tour a family owned ice cream shop that made their own ice cream as a child. I liked seeing how the ice cream was made- and tasting it!

I have several moments to remember with ice cream, but one of my favorite memories is sitting around with family and making home made ice cream in the hand cranking ice cream makers. It was a blast. Each person had a turn at cranking the handle.

We would sit on the front steps in the hot sun.. ice cream dripping down our arms and then.. we would jump in pool to cool off and get the “sticky” off! hahah

When I was a child, there was a dairy down the street from my grandparents’ house. When we visited in the summerl, which was often, we were allowed to go to the dairy’s ice cream store and purchase a treat. The frozen malt ice cream cone was always my favorite and I’ve never seen it offered anyplace since.

I don’t know if it’s a favorite memory–more like a guilty memory of sneaking off to the Dairy Queen and buying ice cream cones and root beer floats with the money I’d earned at our family’s garage sale. I’d bike down about 2 blocks and get a treat and my family was none the wiser. (especially my younger brothers and sisters) One time I decided to get some “Fresca” — I was sure it was some magically wonderful ice cream delight. UGH! PTOOEY! It was awful. Several years later I found out what it really was–Diet Pop!

I guess my favorite ice cream moment was when I am with my granddaughter Madison she questiones everything in life. Ice cream is the one treat I thought we could get through without all the questions, but no first question how many cows made my ice cream, #2 where are the cows living(because she could not see them) but I guess all those questions are worth it to see the joy in her eyes while she conquers the ice cream cone, even though its ice cream the look on her face takes me back to when her mom, her aunt and I always enjoyed a walk to the park and an ice cream cone from the local Stewarts. I guess its the simple moments like that that we all cherish and I shared that with her mom now I’m sharing it with her, Life is good and I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!”

About 2 weeks ago, I made the perfect banana split using 1 scoop vanilla ice cream/orange sherbet mix, 1 scoop mint chocolate chip ice cream, & 1 scoop Rocky Road ice cream with bananas in plastic banana-shaped dishes, topped with Reddi Whip and caramel. Well, almost prefect: I didn’t have any cherries for the top!
