Laundry Tips, Win Tide & Help Children

time for change

I am absolutely loving my Frigidaire Washer & Dryer that I got from being on the Mom Central Test Drive team! It has made doing Laundry so much easier! I can’t believe how much money it has saved us as well. Ladies,my husband is now doing laundry more than once a week!

Today I thought I would talk about washing your clothes in cold water! Are you reluctant to turn off the heat in your laundry routine?Did you know that 80% of energy used in washing a family’s clothes comes from energy needed to heat the water?Despite what your mother told you, washing your clothes in hot water is NOT the only way to get them clean. Washing your clothes in cold water will help reduce the energy being used and save you money in the long run. You may want to use a good detergent specifically made to enhance that. Tide Coldwater is a great one.It allows you to make the small change to cold water washing and energy savings in mind. It’s great for those HE washers just like my new Frigidaire set. Imagine how much money I may save using my new Frigidaire and switching to coldwater. I am making the switch and I am curious to find out! Using Tide Coldwater, families can do 3 washes in cold for the same energy in one wash in hot. They can also save up to 50% of energy used.

Oh did I mention Frigidaire now has a new celebrity ambassador?Jennifer Garner will introduce Frigidaire’s time saving appliances and challenge us to pledge a little bit of our own time to help children n need. They have a new campaign called “Make Time for Change”. Nov 1st will be gaining an extra hour due to the time change?Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner are challenging you to pledge that time to make a difference in the lives of children.Everyone who goes to Frigidaire.com and raises her hand with a pledge to make time for a child, will commit Frigidaire to donate $1 to support the CHANGE. Also everyone who pledges their time will be entered to win a new Frigidaire Professional double wall Oven.(When you enter on THEIR site)

That’s not all Tide is also going to give one lucky CQ member the chance to win a Year’s supply of Tide ColdWater HE! (12 Bottles)

To Enter: Tell us what you hate most about doing Laundry! Also tell us how you plan to use that extra hour to help a child.

I hate the whole process but especially that hubby and the kids refuse to empty their pockets, separate their whites from darks (even though I have two bins to make it easy for them) and leave belts attached all the time. I would use the extra hour to read to my little boy.

So jealous that you got the new Frigidaire washer and dryer! Now, what do I not like about laundry? The question should be what DO I like? I hate how it builds up, and ends up everywhere, and never ends, and doesn’t put itself away, or fold itself. I would spend that extra hour with my kids, because they never get to see me behind the loads of laundry. I know that’s not what you meant but I’m a mom of four boys so….

With 3 kids, and a husband who changes his clothes 3 times a day I feel like the laundry pile is a never ending war. My biggest problem –too many pockets to check–my son leaves candy wrappers or worst case gum in his pockets -my husband leaves receipts–aaaggh! With extra time I would spend more time volunteering at my kids school.

I too hate putting the laundry away. I sometimes get help putting laundry in the washer or dryer but never putting it away!

With my extra hour I will be open to help any of my kids friends with problems and talk to them about the peer pressure they are feeling in middle school and offer them something yummy I have baked while they are over.

I live in an apartment where the laundry room is in the basement. When I’m the only one doing laundry, I hate lugging all of the laundry (like 3 baskets full) down the elevator and to the laundry room…especially when the elevator’s not working!

  28. Ruth Ann on October 29, 2009 5:42 am

Of all of my chores, laundry is probably the one that I dislike the least. I guess the worst part is that if I put an empty laundry basket on the floor in the laundry room (which doubles as a pantry, hallway, recycling collection area and litter box room for my cats), my cats think it’s a new litter box and use it as such. Otherwise, I’m good with laundry. Scrubbing the bathtub and shower…that’s another story.

Oh, and how I’ll be using that extra hour, I’m a volunteer youth leader at my church. I’ll be spending some extra time hanging out with the kids and possibly doing some more maintenance/repair work on the old air hockey table, trying to get it back into shape to where the kids can actually play on it.

I hate going through my son’s pockets. I can fill a small trash pail with his weekly haul. :)

  31. bonbonbabe (melinda) on October 29, 2009 8:00 am

I hate hauling clothing up and down the stairs.

Also, I always have washed my laundry in cold water…except whites, which get a warm wash. Not only does cold water get clothing clean, but also it minimizes fading and shrinking. Using cold is a win/win.

  32. bonbonbabe (melinda) on October 29, 2009 8:01 am

  286. Jen on November 7, 2009 7:25 pm

I really can’t stand matching up socks. One of these days, I am going to throw every single pair of socks out and buy all new ones that look the same for each person in the house. That would be a huge timesaver for me. The extra time I would have could be used helping my son with his homework.

  287. Liss Burnell on November 7, 2009 7:52 pm

I get repulsed when ds’s forget to take their daily “catch” out of their pockets before they throw their dirty muddy clothes in my washer. Once, when I was switching the laundry over, I found a frog leg, then another frog leg, then some froggy toes because the child forgot he had a big fat frog in his pocket and tossed his clothes into the already running washer. Gross

  288. Aaron on November 7, 2009 8:54 pm

I hate the dirty smelly clothes the most. Laundry would be so much easier without them :)

  289. Pamela S on November 7, 2009 9:13 pm

The part I have the most about laundry is the bill from my dryer! I hang my clothes outside all summer long, but when the weather begins to change, I know I can only dry my clothes part way and then hang them all over the house..this takes so much time. If I had the extra hour or two to help a child, it would definetly be spent with my 2 year old son, because he really wants to play or read books when I do laundry.
    Thanks!

Hate? Umm, how about dislike. I have an older model, small washer which means several loads to get the job done.
Would love to spend the extra time helping out in the community garden I started with several neighbors & their kids.

  416. Jody Tews on November 17, 2009 12:58 pm

Worst part for me is up and down the stairs. Extra hour is playtime.

  417. Betty Curran on November 17, 2009 1:42 pm

Not only do I hate putting it all away but I especially hate having to go all the way downstairs to add fabric softener if I use a liquid one – so I usually wait and use a dryer sheet.
I would spend time with my grandson talking about his day.

I hate when I take things out of the dryer and find a set in stain that could have easily come out had I know it was there and could have pretreated it! With my extra hour, I will go to our local elementary school and volunteer my time to help 2 children in the HOSTS (Helping One Student To Succeed) program.

The worst thing about doing laundry is my husbands military uniforms. They smell of jet fuel because he works on military planes. It is so hard to get them clean and smelling good. It takes a few washes. I would use the extra time to go outside and play with my kids or watch them ride bikes.

The thing I hate about doing laundry is not having the connections in my apartment its a chore to carry laundry down stairs get in your car and take to the laundry mat then wait for it to wash and dry then stand there and fold it. So I get my kids to do it and they hate it as much as I do.

  447. JMARIE on November 18, 2009 3:56 am

Having to fold all the clothes and put them back where they belong(I had 8 kids). (As they got older, they did alot of their own wash) I found out the ONLY way to conquer that was to fold clothes directly from the dryer into the basket to carry back upstairs–never put clothes from the dryer into a basket “to fold later”.
