Flu Season: Win Clorox Wipes!

Germs. Germs and more Germs!!!! I hate them! The cold weather is here and my kids are already getting sick. I was sick all day yesterday and it was not fun! I am sure all you moms know what I mean. What happens when mom gets sick? EVERYTHING!!! My whole house goes to pot. Clorox sent me some tips on how to help fight those germs during the flu season and I thought I would share them with you.

The CDC has announced that last week December 8-14, 2008, was National Influenza Vaccination Week. That means the time is now to take precautions. Each year, more than 22 million school days are lost in schools across the country due to cold and flu.

Here are some tips from Clorox and the national PTA:

·         Get Vaccinated: Effectiveness varies from 70 percent to 90 percent. It is recommended for children 6 months through 18 years of age.
·         Wash your hands frequently: Germs are the culprit in causing flu. Take time and thoroughly washing hands.
·         Help Stock Up: More than 56 percent of teachers buy their own cleaning supplies. You can help by donating cleaning supplies, such as Clorox disinfecting wipes, to help your teacher stock the classroom and keep it clean.
·         Take Five: Experts believe that up to 80 percent of infectious illnesses are spread by touch and students can touch up to 300 surfaces in just 30 minutes. Take 5 minutes to wipe down commonly touched surfaces in the classroom such as desks, pencil sharpeners and keyboards to help reduce the spread of germs
·         Teach Healthy Habits: Remind kids to share wisely. It’s great to share items like books, toys and pencils, but not items like combs, brushes, hats, toothbrushes, tissues, whistles, cups and forks.
·         Do the Elbow Cough: Cough into your elbow, not hands (where you’re more likely to spread germs through touch).
·         ABCs of Sneezing: Keep tissues handy and teach kids how to blow their noses early – instead of doing the icky sleeve swipe. The key is tossing tissues in the trash right away to keep germs at bay.
·         Sleep is Key – for parents and children, earlier bed times mean better performance the next day.

Don’t forget Clorox Wipes are great to keep at Day Care, Church Nursery,Diaper Bags and best of all it’s safe to use!

Biggest way to fight the flu, teach all to wash hands- if the kids are sick, keep them home- same goes for work- no sense in getting everyone else sick and really cutting down work getting done. I wipe down doorknobs and handles and even shopping carts..look like a nut but watch the kids that pick the noses and touch the baskets- totally gross.Subscriber

I FEEL YOUR PAIN MY LITTLE BOY HAS BEEN SICK SINCE SUNDAY AND IT’S HORRIBLE I START TO PANIC, SPRAYING DOWN EVERYTHING WITH LYSOL, MAKING SURE HE WASHES HIS HANDS AND I GO TO THE STORE AND BUY HIM HIS KLEENEX(THE ANTI-VIRAL KIND)HE LIKES HAVING SOMETHING LIKE THAT HIS OWN. I JUST KEEP UP WITH THE VITAMIN C AND JUST WATER KEEPING THE FLUIDS IN THEM I CHANGE HIS SHEETS ALSO WHEN I DO THIS I TAKE HIM TO THE COUCH AND LET HIM SLEEP THERE AND THEN I DO WHAT MY MOM ALWAYS TOLD ME TO DO I OPEN THE WINDOWS TO HIS ROOM AND FREEZE HIS ROOM OUT TO KILL THE GERMS. ONCE DONE AFTER A FEW HOURS I PUT CLEAN SHEETS ON (OF COURSE WINDOWS CLOSED AT THIS POINT AND THE ROOM LYSOLED) AND THEN I TAKE HIM BACK TO HIS ROOM ALL FRESH AND CLEAN. I THINK IT REALLY HELPS. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

I subscribed via google reader. My tip is wash your hands many times. You do not realize how many times you touch your face or mouth during the day. My son was in the hospital a year ago (viral ensephalitis) and upon entering and exiting his room we had to use the hand sanitizer. Let me tell you, if you put your hands near your mouth…the taste was awful. I did not realize how many times I did this until this illness hit my son. So now we wash, wash, wash! It never hurts and we just keep a lot of lotion around.

Because our daughter has multiple medical issues, we’re constantly fighting germs. Our best tips are to routinely wash hands, take vitamin C, use hand sanitizer in public when hand washing isn’t available, always wipe down shopping cart handles, use a cart cover when daughter rides along, avoid over crowded locations (sporting events, church services, concerts, movies, etc. where large crowd is in small space) during cold and flu season.

Our best tip has been buying sanitizer in bulk and keeping a bottle by the door and smaller ones in the car & diaper bag. We are pretty cautious since one of our babies arrived a wee bit too early (23 weeks) and we had to be extraordinarily careful about his exposure when he came home. We use lots of Clorox wipes still. :)

  145. cynthia on January 20, 2009 4:52 pm

I agree with the majority, wash hands before you eat, after you go to the restroom, after you shake peoples hands at church, and make your kids wash their hands when they come in from school.

Hi! My best tip is to constantly wash your hands and eat a lot of vitamin C drops. Thanks.

I love the Clorox wipes! I clean all my kitchen counters with them. I also mix clorox with water in a large tub during the summer and wash my son’s toys in the mixture. He was a premie and had so many issues with germs that using clorox has help keep the little guy very healthy. He’s now 5 and very healthy
