This is a question I hear all to often! People constantly emailing me saying they have signed up and they have saved money but not as much as the Consumer Queen. I have been wanting to blog about this for sometime now and have just not had the time and the blog world has kept me so busy!!!!
Saving money is easy but it does require some work. The more work you put into it the more you save. Some say there is no trick to saving money but I say there is! Although I may see it differently than everyone else.

The first thing you need to remember is that not everyone will save the same way. Also one person may save more than the other because of their life situations. It also depends on where they live and what stores they have. For example I live in Edmond,Oklahoma we have Crest Foods, Homeland, Super Target and Walmart for grocery stores. We also have a CVS and Walgreens. Homeland is the only store that doubles here and the prices are much higher than the other stores but you can still get some great bargains as well as items for free. Consumers who Live in Tx have Krogers, Tom Thumb and Albertsons. Some of these stores double and triple. They also do not pay tax on groceries.
Before I went to work full time, I was a money saving mad woman LOL. I was going from store to store racking up the deals. Yes, I was saving more than I spent on gas. This is another thing you have to think about some people will post how much they save but what they don’t tell you is some of them drive completely out of the way for a deal therefore not really saving because they spent so much in gas.
Now that I am working full time I do not save as much money because I do not have the time to go shopping any more but with a little determination my family is saving plenty.
What I am trying to do is make you look at the big picture here. You will see people posting about getting the great deals but things you need to remember: Do they work? Do they stay at home? Do they live in a small town or a big town? What stores do they have in their area? What are their coupon values? Do they have to pay state sales tax? How much time and effort do they put into it? (Organizition is key) Do they participate in online discussions. Just because they saving more than you dosen’t neccessarily mean they are a better shopper. It all depends on what resources they have and how much time they have available to put into it.
I think belonging to an online savings forums has a big impact. People get together and share their money saving ideas and deals that they find themselves. I think as more people participate the more deals there are for everyone. The Grocery Store Forums located here at CQ are a great place to start. You can see what ther people are posting in your area and add your experiences to them.
Next Time you see someone posting about how much they save do not get discouraged. Instead ask yourself what am I doing? What could I do more? Do I participate enough. Then remember what are their circumstances? You can be your own Money Saving Queen in your own town and not even know it. Give yourself credit for starting and a pat on the back for diving in to this adventure. Think positive and focus more on what you can do with the resoueces you have instead of worrying about how you can out do someone else. I think you will be shocked about how much money you will save!

Thank you so much for this! I’m fairly new to this whole thing and I work full time. But using the advice from your site and others, I’ve made saving money my new hobby. Hey I could be doing worse things with my free time!
Your welcome1 I think its all about your attitude no matter what happens in life if you are determined to save you can do it!
Another thing to remember that Melissa did not address above is LOOK at what the people purchased. You will see that many people do not buy full groceries when they save tons of money. Many of us have stockpiled the basics and can pick up a few things here and there as they are on sale. So we may have saved 80% but we purchased an odd combination of stuff…nothing that would feed a family for a week. Over time this will be apparant and you can become the same way. Stay determined. Savings will come. I get the whole family involved (kids are FREE labor). Remember also if your not going to use it it is not a bargin!
