Today while I was reading my emails I noticed that it was the 7th Annual Time to Talk Day. Violence Unsilenced is a very moving website. Their Mission statement is:

One of the last hurdles to eradicating abuse is the culture of silence and shame that exists yet today. You very likely have people in your life that are being abused, you just don’t realize it. Victims are led to believe they are alone, that no one will believe them, and that people will think less of them. Heavy societal pressure generally falls on the victim (ie, “Why doesn’t she leave?”) instead of on the person committing the crime (ie, “Why does he do that?”)

Every situation is complicated and unique, and there is no stereotype. Every single survivor of abuse is different from his or her comrades, and by sharing stories here we can educate ourselves as to just how pervasive domestic violence and sexual abuse/assault is, and how it crosses all cultural, racial, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic lines. This is our society’s collective issue, not simply a problem of those directly impacted.

First aid for epilepsy is basically simple. The goal is to keep the person safe until the seizure stops naturally by itself. It is important for the public to know how to respond to all seizures, including the most noticeable kind—generalized tonic-clonic seizures, or convulsions.

When providing seizure first aid for generalized tonic-clonic seizures, these are the key things to remember:

•Keep calm and reassure other people who may be nearby.
•Don't hold the person down or try to stop his movements.
•Time the seizure with your watch.
•Clear the area around the person of anything hard or sharp.
•Loosen ties or anything around the neck that may make breathing difficult.
•Put something flat and soft, like a folded jacket, under the head.
•Turn him or her gently onto one side. This will help keep the airway clear. Do not try to force the mouth open with any hard implement or with fingers. It is not true that a person having a seizure can swallow his tongue. Efforts to hold the tongue down can cause injury.•Don't attempt artificial respiration except in the unlikely event that a person does not start breathing again after the seizure has stopped.
•Stay with the person until the seizure ends naturally.
•Be friendly and reassuring as consciousness returns.
•Offer to call a taxi, friend or relative to help the person get home if he seems confused or unable to get home by himself.

I wanted to take a minute to share with everyone the fact that November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month. There are many misconceptions about Epilepsy and many people actually do not know what to do when people have a seizure. I will try and educate you a bit over the month to cure any misconceptions people may have.

I had Epilepsy when I was younger and my middle son Lee had Epilepsy when he was younger also. We are both seizure free with no medication at this point; however, awareness and advocacy for those who still have seizures and Epilepsy is important to me.

With unemployment at an all time high and recent price hikes at the food stores, more and more families are truly struggling to keep food on their shelves. The demand for food is not just at the family dinner table anymore!  Additional donations of non-perishable food items are needed to help replenish the local fire department's cabinets here on the Gulf Coast.

In the City of Waveland, Mississippi, firefighters have just received a new home since Hurricane Katrina's wrath in 2005. YES! It is almost 2012 and the cities firefighters have been homeless! Now that the new fire department has been built, it is left up to the firefighters themselves to stock their shelves!

A recent city budget cut has left the City of Waveland to not only furlough City Workers but lay most off as well. Currently there is one paid firefighter per shift working to protect a city with a population of nearly 6,000 residents. Despite the furloughs and layoffs, amazingly volunteers from the community have stepped forward to help the financially strapped city. Even laid off firefighters have continued to do their jobs minus the paycheck!

Firefighters risk their lives everyday to help people they have never met. Now's our chance to extend a helping hand to them! Gather up your coupons people!!! Let's help the firefighters of the Mississippi Gulf Coast fill their pantries.

Thanks to all you came out in support of the Swazi 5K run yesterday. Kroger has now banned coupon stacking nation wide in it's stores.  They state that due to the increased coupon usage they cannot afford to allow stacking.  No more using a manufacturer's coupon AND a store coupon on the same item.  Some stores have even stopped doubling in some areas.   We as couponers have got to start promoting responsible couponing or it's only going to get worse.  Sorry to be blunt, but the greed has got to stop!!  Clearing the shelves is going to ruin it for everyone.  Ok, I'm off my soap box LOL!!
