Kids, Chores & the value of Money!

chores-300x298

For a long time we have always had our kids do chores with out reward other than a good job here or some sort of praise. We did not want our kids growing up thinking they had to get something for doing chores that they should do normally anyways. I wanted my kids to also know how to be independant when they left the house and be able to do things  for themselves.

As they have gotten older my thinking has changed some what. We have decided to start giving our kids an allowance because we want them to start learning the value of money and how to start saving. We decided to start giving our kids $10 a week. Out of that $10 they would give $1 in tithes to church and the rest left over they would split in 1/2. One half would go in savings and the other half they can keep and spend on whatever they want. I am very grateful that we have started our kids early, at almost age 10 and 13 my kids know how to clean their own bathroom, wash their own clothes, vaccum, load and unload the dishwasher, cook and a few other things etc. Some of the these things we still do for them of course as parents but at least we know, if they had to, they know how to do it. My kids still clean their rooms and feed the animals as part of their responsibility and they do still clean there own bathroom. They will also from time to time take on the other chores just so we know they still know how to do it. Sort of a test you might say LOL.

Here is a site where kids can earn rewards for doing chores called Handi Points. It also has printable Chore Charts.

Here is another place for Kids Chore Charts!

How do you tackle kids and Chores?

Back to college saving with Sears

Well it’s getting that time of the year.  Yep back to school!  For some this might mean going to college for the first time.  Lucky for them Sears has made this transition easier. They have a new CampusReady Campaign they are doing.

When I was in school we had calculators and notebooks.  Now they all seem to have phones that can do everything for them, not to mention computers that allow them to get online and do research without going to the library.  But while this has made college easier, it also makes things more expensive.  So college students need to be smart in how they spend their money.

Sears is helping the college student in numerous ways:

*  Gift Getter- This helps the college students get the gifts they want and need for their dorm room.  All the student has to do is go online and pick the things they want and then send the gift registry to family and friends.  This also helps in picking out a gift as the student has already picked out want they need.

*  Roommate Matchup – This allows the student to “meet” their roommate on Facebook and get to know a little bit about them before they move into a dormroom together.  This should help the students avoid big personality conflits by giving them more time to work things out.

*Dorm Room Designer – They can get together online with their roommate and design and decorate the dorm room before they even step foot on campus!  They can see their room in 3D and make changes with the design and decorations.

Sears has made sending your kids to college alot easier with this Sears Facebook CampusReady App  on Facebook.  If you follow their lead your child should have no problem with the transition to college (and it should help you save time and money!)

Wii Birtday Party Bash Review & Frugal Party Tips!

We had the privilege to be able to review the Wii game , Birthday Party Bash. We were sent the Wii Birthday Party Bash game to review for free.My daughter (12) played this game for hours after we got it.  She enjoyed being able to choose the theme of a party and from there, being able to plan a birthday party.  The more things a player does, the more things that they uncover for them to use on a custom party!  Another thing she liked about the game was that you could just play the party games if you wanted to and not have to start a new party!!

Parents this a great game to get.  It allows you see what kinda party your kids wants.  Then you can let them  help plan it.  The Birthday Party Bash comes with invitations  so once your child pics his theme and games he wants to play, you fill out the invitations, make the cake and that’s it!   My daughter is looking forward to her friends coming over and seeing the party she planned! This would be a great way for the busy parent to plan a party.

And don’t forget to go to www.birthdaypartybashgame.com for more fun things you can do with this fun game!

Some Frugal Party tips from the Queen:

1.Check the Dollar Tree for paper plates, cups, napkins and themes items.

    2. Goodie Bags are overrated most parents hate bringing home those little trinkets. they just clutter the rooms.

3.Hand make invitations or send invitaions by email to save on postage!

4.Make your own cake and let the party guests decorate it as an activity.

5.Make sure you say Cake and Ice cream will be served so guests will know to eat before the party.

    6. If your Birthday is in the summer have an outside theme with sprinklers, sidewalk chalk, bubbles and more. Kids don’t even have to come inside the house (except for the bathroom of course). Do a picnic outside for cake!
